Hua Hin’s Train Station is indeed an architectural masterpiece.

History

Owned by the State Railway of Thailand, Hua Hin Railway Station is located on Phra Pokklao Road, Hua Hin Sub-District (Tambon), Hua Hin District (Amphoe), Prachuap Khiri Khan province (Chang Wat). This magnificent train station of the Southern Line has 2 platforms and 3 tracks. It was originally opened in November 1911. The Line continued to Wang Pong in Wang Pong Sub-District, Pran Buri District in 1914.

The original station building was built in 1910. In 1926 the railway station was rebuilt by Prince Purachatra Jayakara (former commander of the Royal State Railways of Siam) to the current Victorian building that is still in place today. The design was taken from the planned Siam Rat Museum Expo, intended to be built in 1925 at Lumphini Park, but was never built due to the death of King Vajiravudh and the cancellation of the expo by King Prajadhipok. This astonishing station became and still is one of the main attractions in Hua Hin.

In 1967, Colonel Saeng Chulacharit, the former minister of the State Railway of Thailand, coordinated the relocation of the Sanam Chandra Palace Railway Pavilion from Sanam Chandra Palace to Hua Hin. It was renamed to “Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion”.
